More on Brown & Book Sharing

Today, I get the children to think and talk about things in brown.

Teacher: Could you name me things that are brown in colour?
Yi Rou: kiwi fruit
Max: milo, coffee, bear, mud
Shan Lin: peanut, truck, tree trunk
Gaby: coconut
Le Xin: chocolate, monkey
Lucas: soil

Then, we read the book about brown colours. It introduces a few more things in brown such as pine cones, feathers, butterfly etc.

After that, I shared a book with the children. It looked colourful to them, yet the story in it attracted them a lot.

Book Sharing - Little Smudge by Lionel Le  Neouanic (The version I read was translated to Mandarin.)

The children got amused to see how the little uneven shape changed into different things. They felt happy for him too when he finally got to play with the groups of shapes.

We will work on a chocolate project tomorrow. Hopefully it all goes well. Keep our finger crossed.

Book Sharing & New Colour - Brown

Today, I wanted to share some books with the children. Besides that, Gaby passed me a book that she brought for the World Book Day last week. Therefore, I used 10 minutes to read through her book. After that, I shared a simple colour book with the children - Meeow and the little chair by Sebastian Braun.

Today, we were also going into the new colour - Brown. This would be the last colour for us to explore before the colour theme ends by this Friday. I didn't get to find any suitable brown colour song but I found a video clip that I always show to kids when we do brown - Eric Carle's Brown bear, brown bear, what do you see?

Besides that, I also shared a book about brown to the children after watching the video clip. It is Karen Katz's The Colors of US.

Art and Craft: Witch Hat (part II)

I have pre-prepared some punch out assorted design of different picture for the children to paste it onto their witch hat. I just randomly divided the share in hand to each of them.

First, they pasted the triangle that they had cut onto a piece of white A4 paper and then, they came to me to pick up a bowl of decorates to decorate their hat. Some of them decorate it randomly while I could see some of them did it some sort of a pattern.

Here were some of the pictures done by the kids:

Art and Craft: Witch Hat (part I)

In conjunction with the World Book Day this week, the children were waiting for me to share the books that they brought to school. I have looked through some of their books yesterday and I picked 3 books to share today.

Here were the books that I have picked:

Khai Hann's : Barney, BJ and Scooter
Zhuo Hwa's : Dear Zoo Noisy Book
Shan Lin's : Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Bunny?

Witch was mentioned in the story - Room on the Broom. Coincidentally I have some witch costume. I have a hat and a cape. I let the children voluntarily to put it on and I take some picture of them while the others were working on cutting out the shape of the witch hat which to be used for our art and craft next week.

Here were some of the pictures of them dressing up in the witch costume. Who looked more like a witch? For boys, I told that that they will be called wizard instead of witch.

Book Sharing

Today, the children were very excited and wanted to share their books with the class. I picked Le Xin's The Princess Stories to read to the children. Besides that, I have also glance through some of the other books and would arrange a time tomorrow to go through their books with the class.

On the other hand, I have also prepared a story book to share with the class. Black colour appears a lot in this book. It's Julia Donaldson's Room on the Broom. Illustrated by Axel Scheffler.

We shall explore a little more about black colour tomorrow.

Worksheet - Black Colour

Worksheet - Black Colour

I found an interesting worksheet from online about black colour for the children to work on it. I thought black would be a easy colour for the kids to spot. However, some of them showed me other colours instead of black.

Therefore, I went through some of the colour pencil with the children before I distributed the worksheet. Besides colouring, the children were told to draw something that is black in colour. Most of them could complete this part easily.

This week is World Book Day. The children could bring their favourite book to class for sharing until this Friday. I will try my best to slot in the book sharing section during our 1 hour class for this week.

Worksheet - Yogurt

I have prepared a yogurt worksheet for the children to work on. Before we start with the worksheet, we did some brainstorming on the colour "black".

Here were some replies from the children about black:
Yi Rou: bat, gorilla
Shan Lin: hair, mushroom
Yen Rou: train
Gaby: wheels
Le Xin: eyes
Max: spider, chocolate, panther (At first he said cheetah, I guess he means panther)

The yogurt worksheet is basically about the fruits that the children added in to the yogurt. The children needed to colour the fruits, cut it out and pasted it onto the worksheet that I have prepared.

White project - Homemade Yogurt

White project - Homemade Yogurt

I believe the yogurt is ready to be eaten. Yet, the children needed to spend some time cutting all the necessary fruits or food that could goes with the yogurt.

Here were the list of fruits brought by the children:
Apple: Yien, Max, Zhuo Hwa
Orange: Gaby (brought for He Wei as well), Shan Lin, Yi Rou, Max, Zhuo Hwa
Pear: Zhuo Hwa
Banana: Lucas Lim
Kiwi: Lucas Lim
Strawberry: Khai Hann

Here were some pictures taken when the children were busy cutting all those fruits. I delegated some of the cutting task to those who didn't bring anything as well.

Finally, these are the fruits that the children could put together with the yogurt. I have also brought in some strawberry jam for the children to mix in to their yogurt.

The children enjoy it very much!! Only that we got too many oranges and I guess the children have to finish it during their snack time later. Thank you to all parents who have gotten your kids to bring fruits to make this activity a success!!
