Brown bear, brown bear what do you see?

As we moved on to brown colour, immediately I thought of this book from Eric Carle. A parent from another class even did some animals print out for this story. She borrowed the materials for me to carry out the activities in the class. I have counted, there are about 10 animals that we can used to carry out an activity according to the story.

As I read the story to the children, those children who were holding that particular animals would stand up and stand in line. The children listen and follow the instruction until we completed the whole story.

Then, all the children jumbled themselves up and stand in a line. I will give a start for the story and the children would follow the line from the story and see what's the animal that is standing next to him/her. We had this for 2 rounds before the children call it a day.

The children suggested that they could make a picture book like this one. Therefore, I get each child to name me an animal that they could put it into their picture book.

These were the animals that the children suggested: -
cat, fish, rabbit, snake, deer, bat, lion, bear, crocodile, tortoise, frog,

Book Sharing & Fun with strings art

Since we were doing the elephant art yesterday, I shared a story about colours that related to an elephant. However, this book is in Mandarin, therefore, I read it in Mandarin for the children to understand more about how the writer describe those colours.

Book Sharing - You are My Best Friend 《你是我最好的朋友》
The story is about a white mouse - Nana, who wish to make friends with elephants. However, everyone knows that elephant is scared of mouse. Nana believes that it was all the fault of Ah Bao, a leader of a naughty mouse gang, who always make fun of the elephant.

One day, Nana met an elephant called Momo. He was a blind elephant who can't see. Therefore, Nana will describe all the colours to Momo so that he could also feel it and as though he could see it.

When Ah Bao came to disturb both of them, Momo used all the colours that Nana thought him to teach Ah Bao and the gang a lesson. After that, Nana and Momo had some peaceful time playing together.

Since we have some time after the story sharing session, we did a colour art work by using strings and water colour.

The children will place the string into the colours that they wanted. However, I only prepared the primary colours for them - red, yellow and blue.

Then once they have dipped the string with colours, they will place it on one side of their drawing paper. They have to fold the paper into half and press hard before they pulled the string out from it. It will form a pattern.

The boys are colouring their string with water colour.

Huey Xin pressed her coloured string onto the paper while Ayden looked on.

Then, she pulled the coloured string.
The children like it very much as each of them will get a different picture out from it. After that, they will start to tell story of their pictures to their friends.

Grey - Elephant Art

Since the children learned about white and black. Then when we mixed the colour together, we will get grey. Therefore, I brought in some black and white water colour and mixed it in front of the children. Now, they understand more about colour mixing.

Then, we picked an animal that is grey in colour. The children all agreed to pick elephant. Therefore, we did an art work on grey.

This time, the children painted the grey water colour that I have mixed onto their palm and immediately printed it onto the drawing paper that I have prepared.

Once the paint has dried, the children could start to add on details to their art work.
