Worksheet: Things in Orange

I saw this orange worksheet online and I thought I could use it for my class today. Instead of printing the picture on the worksheet, I printed out the pictures separately on a piece of orange paper and get the children to cut it out.

I thought of the children could do this pretty fast. Surprisingly, it took them quite some time to cut out the pictures. Then, I have to guide them to do the worksheet together. It took us almost 50 minutes to complete the whole worksheet today.

The worksheet is as followed:

Orange Project: Orange Juice Making

Today, there were few more children who brought the orange, altogether, there were about 7 of them. Just right before we start, I discussed with the children if they could share their orange with those friends who didn't bring. Unfortunately, out of 7, only 2 are willing to share. Therefore, I decided to follow their wish.

Those who brought the oranges for the project sat in the front of the class while those who didn't bring any oranges sat at the back of the class and watched only.

First, I cut some lines around the orange and demonstrated how to peel the orange. Then, the children get to do it themselves. Secondly, once the children had done the peeling, I will help them to cut it into smaller pieces. The children will help to remove the seeds if there's any.

I took some pictures of the children with the oranges that they had peeled.

Lastly, they will put the cut pieces of oranges into the blender and blend it. It still have quite some fiber and not only juice.

However, only 2 of them dislike the drink while others enjoyed it.

Orange Song

Last Friday, I asked the children to bring an orange to school. However, there's only 2 children who brought - Yi Rou & Shan Lin. They brought more than one orange each.

Then, we had a discussion about this matter.

Teacher: There are about 16 children here and we needed at least one orange from each of you. If any of the children didn't bring any oranges, can they join in and drink orange juice?
(Some said "No", some said "Yes")
Teacher: Shall we all agree that if those who brought orange, then, they shall do. If not, then, they shall just sit and watch.
(The children agreed.)

Hopefully with such discussion, for those who wish to participate could remember to bring an orange tomorrow.

Then, I played them the orange song that I found on www.youtube.com.

Then, while searching through the songs via youtube, I came across this interesting song that I thought the children might be interested. Therefore, I also played another video to them. We even add in some actions to it.

New Colour: Orange & Games

Today, we might be able to move on to a new colour - orange. The children gave some examples such as paper, box, bag, water bottle etc. Suddenly, someone mentioned about orange and pumpkin. I asked the children what we could do with orange colour, any project in mind. They mentioned about orange juice. I believe it's a pretty easy project to do with the children.

Therefore, I suggested that each of them could bring one orange to school on Monday so that we could do orange juice.

As we still have about 30 minutes left, we played a word recognition game. I have prepared 4 word cards - red, yellow, blue and green. Every time the children got the answer correct, they will be rewarded a stamp. They needed to collect at least 3 to be rewarded a lollipop.

Here are the tools for the games:

Revision & Plant the Bunga Telang

Revision & Plant the Bunga Telang

Today, we started off by revising all the song that we have learned about colours. At the same time, I also get the children to look at the spelling of the words while they sing along.

Then, after that, I introduced the seeds that I got for the Bunga Telang. The headmistress said we could plant it in our school garden before we moved it to the fence as this is a kind of creeper. There's space available on the fence at the back of the school. Hopefully it will grow.

We moved out to the garden for the children to take the seeds out from its pod and plant it into the soil that I have prepared.

Here were some pictures taken as the children take turns to remove the seeds from its pod:

Art & Craft: Green Frog Origami (part II)

As I was only managed to guide 2 groups of children yesterday, today, we continued with the other 2 groups of children.

At the same time, I have some bunga telang (in Malay) or Clitoria Ternatea (its scientific name) in hand. When we were learning about blue, Yi Rou did mention that she drank some blue colour drink before. I guess this is the one that she mentioned. So I wanted to cook this and show it to them.

After the water has boiled, I put in the bunga telang with some pandan leaves. Then, I added in sugar for it to taste.

Look at that beautiful blue colour.

Art & Craft: Green Frog Origami

Today, I prepared some art work - frog origami for the children to learn. However, before that, I played them a song - A little Green Frog.

Video: Little Green Frog - Song for Kids by Little Fox

Then, I divided the class into 4 groups. Each time, I could only teach and demonstrate the frog origami to 4 children. Some of the steps, they needed guidance as the paper were getting thicker as they fold. The tiny little hand were not that strong to fold it in order. As most of them needed guidance, I could only guide 2 groups of children to complete their frog today. We shall continue with it tomorrow.
