Sweet Corn for dessert

Last week, when the children learned about yellow colour, they were quite interested with the corn. However, most of them called it "jagung" (in Malay language). Therefore, I wanted them to learn to remember the English name of it. Therefore, today, I'm going to guide the children to prepare a simple dessert which they all loves - cook sweet kernel.

I brought in about 5 cut corns with one which still covered with husk. The children take turns to observed it. They were laughing at the silk. Saying that it looked like their hair.

Then, I brought all of them to the dining hall to start our dessert making. Each of them will get a small portion of the cut cob and started to peel the kernel into their bowl. At the same time, I boiled some water to get ready for cooking the kernel.

Wow! The children's fingers muscle must have grown quite strong and well. This time, they could peel the cob clean!! Look at that!

Then, I cooked all the kernels that the children had peeled off. After that, I added in some butter and salt for the taste. Then everyone of them will get a small scoop of the dessert. "Yummy!" "It's delicious!" That's what they said.

Art and Craft - Chick (tear and paste) Part II

The children had done their art and craft of the chick on last Friday. Now the glue had dried off. I brought back the picture into the class today and see if the children could make up 2 sentences about the chick.

Teacher: What is this?
Children: Chick.
Teacher: Could you give me the answer in full sentences? (The children paused for a while)
Children: This is a chick. (That would be our first sentence.)
Teacher: What is the colour of the chick.
Children: Yellow. (I guided them to make the 2nd sentence - It is yellow in colour.)

I have also printed out the words for these 2 sentences. I printed one in yellow colour paper while the other one in pink colour paper just in case the children mixed them up.

First, I get everyone of them to pick up a word for the yellow colour paper and put it into their bowl. I guided them slowly to paste the words accordingly for the 1st sentence. The children had done this kind of worksheet before, therefore, this time, they  are more familiar and could search for the words accurately.

We did the same for the 2nd sentence. The children could complete the worksheet in time today. They even have some spare time to add on some colours to their chick art.

Here were some of the work done by the children:

Art and Craft - Baby Chick (tear & paste)

After the children had watched the short video about chicks and eggs yesterday, I prepared some art work materials for the children to do today. I had printed out a picture of a chick on A4 paper. Then, I cut out some yellow colour stripes for the children to do tear and paste.

Most of them could patiently get their chick pasted with the yellow colour paper. Here were some of the pictures during the activity:
