Create a Book (based on little blue and little yellow) - Part I

We mentioned about green caterpillar in our green song. Today, Alice brought a book that she would like to share with her fellow classmates- The Very Hungry Caterpillar's Sound Book by Eric Carle.

The children had watched the video that I have shown about Leo Lionni's Little Blue and Little Yellow yesterday. Today, my initial plan was to get everyone of them to do a book on their own. Then, suddenly I realized it's not that easy especially to tell the children to colour the pages accordingly. That's not an easy task.

Therefore, I decided that we all worked together and we make our own "Little Blue, Little Yellow" book. I guided the children to retell the story as I jotted it on the board. Then, we found out that we needed around 10 pages of paper. I quickly tear the papers into 10 small sheets for the children to colour the pages accordingly.

Here were some of the pictures taken during the activity:

Here were the end result of the pages that the children had coloured for the book making:

Little Blue and Little Yellow

This is a very cute and interesting story about little blue and little yellow. We don't have this book in English currently, therefore, I played them a video that I found on youtube. The children enjoyed watching it and they could understand much better.

Video Sharing: Little Blue and Little Yellow

I played the video twice with explanation and reading the lines together as well. Now, the children remember the mixture of blue and yellow.

On the other hand, I have a green chrysanthemum to show to the children. They past the flower around and observe it.

Tomorrow we shall work on activity based on green colour.

Revision & Green Colour

Today, we went through all the songs that we had sung so far such as red, yellow and orange song. Wow, amazing that the children could remember most of the lyrics of all those songs.

We did a short activity on yellow. The children started by searching for items in yellow in their classroom and drew it on the piece of paper that I gave them. They work in a group of two. Then, we moved to the hall of the school. Lastly, the children searched for yellow items outside of the school.

Here were some of the pictures taken:

Then, I introduced green colour to them today. Before we went in to the brainstorming session, we started off by listening to the green colour song. Then, I guided the children to name me some items which is naturally green in colour.

Sweet Corn for dessert

Last week, when the children learned about yellow colour, they were quite interested with the corn. However, most of them called it "jagung" (in Malay language). Therefore, I wanted them to learn to remember the English name of it. Therefore, today, I'm going to guide the children to prepare a simple dessert which they all loves - cook sweet kernel.

I brought in about 5 cut corns with one which still covered with husk. The children take turns to observed it. They were laughing at the silk. Saying that it looked like their hair.

Then, I brought all of them to the dining hall to start our dessert making. Each of them will get a small portion of the cut cob and started to peel the kernel into their bowl. At the same time, I boiled some water to get ready for cooking the kernel.

Wow! The children's fingers muscle must have grown quite strong and well. This time, they could peel the cob clean!! Look at that!

Then, I cooked all the kernels that the children had peeled off. After that, I added in some butter and salt for the taste. Then everyone of them will get a small scoop of the dessert. "Yummy!" "It's delicious!" That's what they said.
