Final Project

Today would be the final day for our thematic class for this year. We shall concentrate on the concert performance practice in November and December.

Basically today I just round up the facts and details that the children had learned so far and trying my best to get them to complete their crocodile art work. Those children who didn't bring their crocodile art work today, they could try their best to bring it back by Friday so that I could guide them to complete the rest of it.

On the other hand, I have promised the children that I will guide them to sew their felt elephant and shall let them bring it home by end of November while taking some time for concert practice.

Here, I would like to say "Thank you" to our lovely Starfruit class children who had walked with me through the year 2016 happily and I really enjoyed teaching them. Hopefully I shall have chance to meet them again in year 2017.

Goodbye for now. See you all next year.

Book Sharing & Folding Skills

Today, Zhuo Hwa brought a book to school to share with his fellow friends. It's a book on sounds made by the animals. We just browse through the book briefly.

After that, I gave each of them a piece of green colour paper (half an A4 paper) to be folded in to a fan shape. I guided the children to fold it in a big group and followed by checking their art work one by one.

For those who had got their crocodile cut by their parents, they could paste the green colour fan shape body with the head and tail. We shall continue with the rest of the art work on next Monday.

Note: School will be closed for Deepavali holiday on 28th October 2016 (Friday). Therefore, there's no blog update for tomorrow.

Book Sharing & Crocodile Art Work

Today, I shared 2 books with the children. One was brought by Shan Lin while one is mine.

Shan Lin got another book to share with the children today - Trunk Trouble by Felicity Carter and illustrated by Karen Sapp.

I also shared another book about crocodile with the children - Click, Clack, crocodile's back by Kathryn White and Joelle Dreidemy. The children had a good laugh at this funny story.

After the story sharing session, I gave the children back their crocodile's art work which I have already pasted onto the cardboard. I wanted the children to try to cut it out. However, it was not as expected. Therefore, I allowed them to bring it home to ask for help from their parents. Hopefully, everyone will bring back the crocodile's art tomorrow so that we could continue with it.

Book Sharing, Games and Art Work

Shan Lin brought us a short story books about "How Elephants lost their Wings". It's an Indian folk tales retold by Lesly Sims and illustrated by Katie Lovell.

Beside sharing Shan Lin's book, I also shared a book brought by Khai Hann - How do you hug a porcupine?

After that, I set the chairs again for the children to go through the "S" walking again. This time, I placed the chairs around the classrooms and the children needed to walk one round. For those who can't do it yesterday had shown improvement in walking in the "S" pattern and all the children cheered for them.

I have printed some art work for the children to colour. It's a head and tail of a crocodile. I shall paste it on a cardboard once the children were done with it.

Crocodile vs Alligator & Games

The children had watched the video comparing alligator and crocodile last week. Therefore, I guided the children to recall back the content of the video and shared what they remembered.

From the video, the children also noticed that the way crocodile moved in the water. It doesn't swim straight yet, it will swim in a "s" way, like a snake. Therefore, I divided the children into 3 big groups and put about 4 chairs in front of each group. The children needed to walk in a "s" pattern and come back. Most of the children could do it, however, some of them still couldn't complete the task ideally. I have to guide them in following the pattern personally.

Crocodiles

After learning about elephants, we moved on to the last animals for this wild animals theme - crocodiles.

I played 2 videos for the children to explore about crocodiles.

Video #1: ALLIGATORS | Animals for children. Kids videos. Kindergarten | Preschool learning

Video #2: Crocodile - My animal friends - Animal documentaries -Kids educational Videos

Along watching the video, I also guided the children to share what they watched and know about crocodiles. The children shared whatever they saw.

As we have another about 15 minutes left for today, I brought the children downstairs to the hall to watch a short story about "Elephant and Piggie - Can I play too?". I have to play the video twice with some elaboration in order for the children to understand the story.

Elephant Art (Part II)

The children's palm printing elephant art had dried up. Therefore, today, the children could add in details about the elephant. Before we start doing so, I guided them to tell me the parts of the body of an elephant. Basically, the children could tell me about the leg, ears, eyes, tails and the trunk. Therefore, I teach them another vocabulary today - tusk. Hopefully the children could pick up the words correctly.

Then, I gave them back their paper and the children added in the details of their elephant art.
